Bringing the New Baby Home
Hello everybody,
Have you heard the expression, “Having a baby changes everything”. Well, I have to say that I agree, and so do my children. I never really thought about how having another baby would impact my other children, I guess I figured they would just be ok with it and that was the end of that but, it wasn’t. As soon as I got home from the hospital my children came to see the new baby. They stood around the basinet and stared at her, my youngest wasn’t to happy with the baby because he was not my baby anymore. He just looked and didn’t say much, he touched her arm and looked at her fingers. My 11 and 9 year old just stood and looked at her for awhile admiring how small she was and how she was alot lighter complected than they were.
As our friends and family started coming over to see the new baby, my kids started to feel a little left out. I was still tired and my body was in pain, all I wanted to do was rest. I laid in bed as our visiters cuddled and cooed the baby, my kids just sitting there watching, and not saying a word. When my mother asked my 6 year old if he liked the baby he said no and that if she wanted her that she could have her. I wasn’t surprised at his comment, after all he was my baby before the baby was born, and now he felt as if the new baby had taken his place. I knew it was going to take him time to get used to his new baby sister, just like it took my 9 year old daughter time to get used to him when he was born.
Now that my baby girl is 4 months old, he is so much better at being an older brother to her. He has finally gotten over the fact that the baby is here to stay, he gave her away so many times, I lost count.
